L’Association Sportive des Cheminots de Strasbourg Bischheim Section Sjoelbak, en partenariat avec les Amis du Sjoelbak, a organisé le Championnat du Monde de Billard Hollandais au parc des sports de Bischheim du 9 au 11 mai 2024.
Nous avons eu le plaisir d’accueillir 309 participants venant de 18 pays. Un véritable succès, marquant un record historique en termes de nombre de joueurs et de pays représentés depuis la création du Championnat du Monde.

Nous avons eu le plaisir d’accueillir 309 participants venant de 18 pays. Un véritable succès, marquant un record historique en termes de nombre de joueurs et de pays représentés depuis la création du Championnat du Monde.
La compétition a été très disputée. Les Pays-Bas ont remporté la première place en équipe et chez les hommes. Du côté des femmes, l’Allemagne a créé la surprise en décrochant la première place bien méritée. L’équipe de France s’est classée 4ème sur 18 pays, manquant la troisième place de peu. Nous progressons et serons prêts pour les prochains Championnats du Monde.

Nous avons également organisé le premier Championnat International pour les personnes en situation de handicap le 9 mai 2024. Quinze participants ont concouru, avec les deux premières places remportées par la Corée du Sud et une belle troisième place pour la France. Huit de ces joueurs ont également participé au Championnat du Monde, et nous avons été ravis de les intégrer dans la structure du tournoi.
L’ASCS, accompagnée de 60 bénévoles, a mené une organisation impeccable durant ces trois journées

The Sports Association of the Strasbourg-Bischheim Railway Workers Sjoelbak Section, in partnership with the Friends of Sjoelbak, organized the World Dutch Shuffleboard Championship at the Bischheim sports park from May 9 to 11, 2024.
We had the pleasure of welcoming 309 participants from 18 countries. It was a true success, marking a historic record in terms of the number of players and countries represented since the creation of the World Championship.
The competition was highly contested. The Netherlands won first place in both the team and men’s categories. On the women’s side, Germany surprised everyone by securing a well-deserved first place. The French team ranked 4th out of 18 countries, narrowly missing out on third place. We are making progress and will be ready for the next World Championships.

We also organized the first International Championship for people with disabilities on May 9, 2024. Fifteen participants competed, with the top two places taken by South Korea and a commendable third place by France. Eight of these players also participated in the World Championship, and we were delighted to integrate them into the tournament structure.
The ASCS, along with 60 volunteers, executed impeccable organization over these three days.

Toujours partant à l’idée de m’initier à de nouvelles activités sportives, j’ai découvert il y a
quelques mois le sjoelbak ou billard hollandais. (Jeu consistant à mettre un maximum de palets
(30 au total) dans des cases d’une valeur de 1 à 4 points en 3 manches) !!!!!
Adhérent à cette discipline au fur et à mesure des séances d’entraînement que proposait
l’association les Amis du Sjoelbak, j’ai pu participer au championnat du monde et au 1er para-
championnat du monde qui ont eu lieu du 9 au 11 mai à Bischheim, avec 5 autres licenciés de
I’ASHPA
!!!
Au côté d’une quinzaine de joueurs handisport venu des quatre coins de la planète et après avoir
disputer 10 parties je termine à la 3ème place avec une moyenne de 90 points !!! Un
résultat, que je n’imaginais pas réaliser, lorsque l’on m’a proposé la découverte de cette activité
alliant concentration, précision, patience et tactique. Au lendemain de ma belle performance j’ai
enchaîné avec le tournoi valide ou je me classe 165 sur 172 hommes !!!
Je remercie Johana, Denis, Liliane et tous les membres des Les Amis du Sjoelbak pour nous avoir
fait découvrir ce sport

ich möchte mich noch einmal auch im Namen des gesamten deutschen Teams für die wunderbaren
3 Tage bei Euch bedanken. Natürlich gab es auch ein paar Kleinigkeiten, die nicht so gut waren, aber
sonst war alles Super!
Die Leute waren immer hilfsbereit, man konnte jeden fragen. Es war somit eine tolle Teamleistung von
Euch und somit eine, ebesno tolle Stimmung
So soll WM sein! Die Musikgruppe am Abend war spitze! Die Linedancer waren gut, man hätte vielleicht hier etwas
weniger Zeit für die Auftritte nehmen sollen, dann wäre es am Abend nicht ganz so spät geworden. Und das Essen gestern Abend hat sehr lange gedauert. Das hat einigen nicht gut gefallen. Es waren aber einfach zu viele Leute für Flammkuchen-Essen da. Der hat dann aber sehr gut geschmeckt! Also am Ende wieder alles bestens.

First of all, a big thank you and congratulations to Johanna, Gilles and their amazing team of volunteers for an enjoyable and successful World Championships in France. It will be a hard act to follow for whoever organises the next edition. It was a great opportunity to play our wonderful sport and to meet with friends old and new from all over the world.

Het WK… tja het was weer fantastisch toch. Ik denk dat iedereen ervan genoten heeft en zeker wij met
Jacquelien in de finale.
Jammer dat we gebonden waren aan rijtijden van onze buschauffeur maar dat maakte het voor ons niet
minder leuk.
In ieder geval willen we graag iedereen die betrokken was bij de organisatie heel erg bedanken. Het was
fantastisch.

we REALLY had a great weekend in Strasburg! For many reasons… Firstly it’s great possibility to play
with other people than the same all the year. Or, I love when the things work and everyhing worked
perfectly there (from my point of view, maybe you saw some mistakes from inside), or I met many, many
old friends (for example Pieter from Bourgogne, people from Poland, Iko from Amsterdam and had a
great talk with them. I found lots of new friends (eg Mrs Novak from England, Bryan – French
Irishman/Irish Frenchman…) Simply great. Meanwhile we bought two boards from Eric (pity we didn’t
have more space in the car to take more) – and that can be the answer to your question if are motivated to go on – yes, we are! Well, we stayed again at the same place as 7 yrs ago – City Kamp (do you know it?) – it’s near the tram stop called Montagne Verte. It’s a great place – I want to come back there with my wife sometimes, because I love Strasburg and would like to show her around. Well, we live in Slovakia in the town called Bánovce nad Bebravou, it’s about 1000 kms from your place (to far to drive, but we were 3
drivers, so not problem). The nearest airports are Bratislava (our capital) and Vienna, maybe Ostrava
(where David lives). And that’s it – you never know, maybe sometimes there will be possibility to come to
our country, maybe you can organize a trip to visit our country, Czech republic and spend one day playing sjolen with us. By the way my friend Pieter told me a few years ago he visited Slovakia and he had
acommodation in a village only 30 kms from my town, even 3 kms from my mother-in law’s village!
Imagine, It’s a pitty he didn’t have my number that time… So you never know… For example my daughter
(17) is going to visit France this week, their school organizes a week stay in Chantonnay, near la Rochelle.
I would go with them at once…
Well, once again, thanks for all Johanna, give my regards to Patrick, Gilles and to all people who I talked
to and don’t remember their names… I hope we will meet early and later in Strassburg too! I can imagine
the loads of work, but I hope your pleasure is so big that you will no stop!

We all did return safely home; howbeit a very long trip for us. We greatly appreciated our time spent competing and gathering with everyone. It was a great tournament, and we very much look forward to 2026. When I returned home, I had a nice phone call with Dave Dow and he was happy to hear about how well things went and is planning to re-energize USA Sjoelen and also attend in 2026. Thank you very much for all you did to make the event successful and personally for your very much appreciated personal assistance to myself and our team. Also, please extend our thanks to Claudia for kindly picking up me, Dan and Jade from the airport. That was very kind of her to do and we don’t take it for granted. Take care and see you in 2026.
